DEPTH-OF-FIELD FINDER
A handy tool that spares you
photography's mathematical chores

Our exclusive Depth-of-Field Finder (DFF1) tells you the precise depth of field you'll get with all popular 4x5-format lens focal lengths. First, you "measure" the camera's bellows, then you set a sliding cursor to read the distances between which your subject will be sharp. It has scales for focal lengths from 75mm to 360mm; its slider's color-coded lines indicate depth of field for apertures from f/22 to f/64. Imprinted instructions also include how to locate your lens's nodal point and read hyperfocal distance – often a source of confusion for photographers trying to compute bellows extension factors. Whether in the studio or on location, the Depth-of-Field Finder ends the computation – or the guesswork – involved in controlling sharpness.
